Hello everyone, having just taken over the OC rep for this year, I thought that you would like to know what my plans are for the next 12 months.

Beginner Sessions:

Single day session for club members who don't have any experience with open canoe. This will be done on flat and sheltered water and based around the one star syllabus. I will use the forum to announce these and if there is interest, will try to run the first over the winter period (so wrap up warm!).

Development Sessions:

To be run at the same time as the Action Outdoors evening sessions and will provide an opportunity for people to develop their open canoe skills.

BCU Awards:

I will help anyone looking to gain three star, keep an eye on the forum as these will run when there is enough interest.

Canoe based rescue techniques:

I would like to run a one or two day course during the summer, focused on canoe rescue techniques. Self rescue through to more advanced skills (pinned boat). Again, more information will be found on the forum as we have it.

Introduction to moving water:

Dedicated river trips (starting with the river Teith) for open canoe, these will be announced on the forum.

One weekend journey with an overnight camp. Low grade simple moving water – suitable for novice paddlers with some experience of moving water.
